A finely carved white marble chimneypiece in the Neoclassical taste, with a moulded shelf above a richly decorated frieze centred by a carved floral patera and flanked by scrolling foliate ornament. The projecting end blocks are similarly embellished with delicate floral and foliate carving, while the jambs are decorated with elegant vertical floral motifs. A refined and beautifully balanced design, combining crisp carving with classical proportions. English, 19th century.
