A well proportioned period Regency fireplace in delicately veined Italian Carrara marble. The reeded jambs rise to a conforming reeded frieze, terminating in square end blockings carved with crisply defined rosette paterae. The frieze surmounted by a well-moulded shelf with subtle stepped detailing, giving the piece a refined architectural presence. The elegant carving and restrained classical ornament are characteristic of the Regency taste for balanced proportions; well suited for a Study or smaller Drawing Room. English, early 19th century.
