A beautifully carved antique pine fireplace in the Georgian style. The frieze is centred by an oval cartouche depicting a pastoral mill scene, flanked by goats and birds within flowing acanthus scrolls. A crisp dentil course and egg-and-dart moulding beneath the shelf give the mantel strong architectural definition, while the stepped jambs echo the refinement of the frieze. The timber itself has a pleasing neutral colouring and patina, this is a characterful and highly decorative piece. English, 19th century.
