A carved pine fireplace in the George III style, with a heavily carved frieze decorated with acanthus leaves, shell motifs and classical ornament. The centre tablet features a carved mask, beneath a moulded shelf with further foliate carving and egg-and-tongue moulding. The opening is framed by carved inner mouldings with beaded detail, with the jambs enriched by bold scrolled acanthus brackets. The fireplace has a stripped pine finish, giving the piece a lighter, informal character while retaining strong architectural presence. English, 19th century. NB. Opening width to narrowest point - 1306mm.
