A pine fireplace in the Gothic manner, with a broad moulded shelf above a simple frieze and arched opening. The spandrels are carved with small foliate details, with panelled jambs set behind engaged rounded columns. The columns have moulded capitals and bases, raised on plain block footings. The stripped pine finish and relatively restrained carving give the piece a simple architectural character, suitable for both period and more informal interiors. English, late 19th century.
